What GCs ask before they switch

What does a sub actually see?
Six tabs and nothing else: the jobs you assigned them, the bid board if you opened it to them, the phases they are on, their schedule, their insurance and W-9 uploads, and the extra logins they can hand their own foremen. Inside a job they get the job name, the address, the scope you wrote for them, the documents you filed for them with the status of each, their dates, and what you have paid them. They never see your client, what you are charging, or another sub. That separation is enforced on every request, not by trust.
Do subcontractors sign their agreement in VuseDesk?
No, and we would rather tell you here than let you find it in week two. E-signature is built for your client: they sign on their phone and the file locks with their name, the time, and the IP stamped into it. A sub sees the documents you filed for them and whether each one is signed, and their portal says plainly that you will send the agreement over to sign. Nobody is left hunting for a button that was never built.
Do subcontractor logins eat my seats?
No. Seats count your internal team only. Subcontractor logins never use a seat, and each vendor company can hand out up to five read-only logins to its own foremen without touching your seat count.
Does VuseDesk verify insurance coverage?
We track each certificate and its expiry date. A nightly check emails you when a sub's certificate is inside 30 days of lapsing or has already lapsed, and it reminds you once a week until the certificate is replaced. Reviewing the coverage itself, limits, endorsements, and project requirements stays with you.
Can I pay subs through VuseDesk?
You pay them the way you already do, by check or bank transfer, and record it here. VuseDesk keeps the record rather than moving the money, so there is no account for your sub to connect and nothing of yours sitting in a balance. Every amount you record lands in that sub's 1099 total.
Do you file my 1099s?
We track what you paid each sub, flag who crosses the year's IRS reporting threshold ($600 through tax year 2025, $2,000 for payments made in 2026) and who is missing a W-9, and export year-end totals as a CSV. Thresholds change by tax year, and the filing itself stays with your accountant.
What does the GC plan add that the Contractor plan does not have?
Three tools in your console (Vendors, Bid board, Subcontractors), three more sections inside every job (Timeline, Subcontractors, Bids), the subcontractor portal itself, an eight-step government-contracting playbook, automations you write yourself instead of the fixed six, and more than one client of record on a single job. Everything in the Contractor plan comes with it.
Can I move between the two plans?
Yes. Upgrading or downgrading takes effect right away and Stripe prorates the difference. A card is required to start and there is no free trial.
